IAM Roadsmart
The Advanced Motoring Course

Our IAM RoadSmart courses are held at two locations in Kent. Both follow the four part curriculum of the 'System of Car Control', 'Driving Plans', 'Motorways' and 'Putting it All Together' by means of a friendly lecture by our skilled lecture team. This will include a short video, examples and discussions and a chance for the associate to ask questions. It will then be followed by a session in your own vehicle under the watchful eye of our Qualified Observers.
The course leader will assign you an Observer for each drive, normally a different Observer each time. The aim is for each associate to gain a good broad range of skills ready for the test and indeed for life. Each drive lasts for approximately one and half hours, taking in all types of roads where possible, including urban and rural roads and Dual Carriageways and Motorways. Each Observer are their to advise on better driving tips and skills for improving your driving and preparing for the associates Advanced Test. At the end of each session the Observer will complete a de-brief focusing on further improvements that can be made and a short written report.
The Associate will be expected to adhere to traffic regulations, the Highway Code and to develop the use of the "System of Car Control". The Associate must hold a valid driving license, be able to meet the minimum eyesight requirement and their vehicle must be taxed, insured and have an MOT (if applicable) and must remain valid for its duration.
The courses are held at Grove Green Community Centre in Maidstone and The Barn at Kingston near Canterbury.
